Edinburgh on the east cost of Scotland's East Lowlands on the south shore on the North Sea the city of Edinburgh has been the capital of Scotland since 1437 and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995. Edinburgh history dates back to around 600-700 AD when Edwin of Diera, from whom the city derive its name fortified the Castle rock. Edinburgh was originally a wall town extending less than a mile down the ridge to the east from Edinburgh Castle later expanded its boundaries to about 4 square miles. By 1840 when photography came to Edinburgh it also created photographic history records of several other buildings painted by seventeenth and eighteenth century artists.
Being a world heritage site, the city of Edinburgh is a major tourist attraction because of several castles, museums, historical episodes and Old Chapels. The city also has the Holyrood house Palace which is the official residence of the Queen and royal family. The Husband of the present Queen of England Elizabeth two derives his title of 'Duke of Edinburgh' from this city.
Other major attractions include the Edinburgh Castle and Museum of Scotland delineating history and culture of Scotland from Stone Age to present. At Real Mary King's Close a visitor can avail a guided tour through a warren of Hidden streets beneath the royal dating back to the sixteenth century where dramatic episodes from pasts are recreated including life in plague-ridden Edinburgh during seventeenth century. The Rosslyn Chapel is also an attraction for religious visitors for those interested in religious sites.

Though small in size the city of Edinburgh is a pride place of History and Royal Landmarks.
