Salford is a city in the north-west of England which
forms the borough of the City of Salford in Greater Manchester
with neighbouring towns. It is historically part of Lancashire.
It seems that the name of Salford was derived from two Anglo-Saxon
words "soel" (the hall) and "ord" (the prince)
and also seems possible that the first Saxon King to establish
himself here could have been Aethelfrith, shortly after the
Battle of Chester in 613 AD Salford was long an important textile
centre. Many Port of Manchester docks were located in the confines
of the city. While thinking about this place one has to banish
from his mind any image one may have of an industrial, murky
and smog-bound and I imagine it as a small, suburban settlement
nestling in the bend of the River Irwell opposite Manchester
Cathedral. Imagine it also with a rural aspect, a place of market
gardens, orchards and elegant streets. Such was Salford before
its transformation by the industrial revolution.
Salford's history goes all the way back to 923AD. In these thousand
years or so you can see that Salford, a village that set off
the industrial revolution is still a pretty village in Britain
without being touched by the modern world despite it being in
the urban quarter of the black and white timbered grand statue
at Ordsall Hall. The place with the usual shops, historic sites
and green areas also has a dynamic culture, architecture that
is on such a grand scale that it challenges that of west of
Berlin, helping Manchester host the largest sporting event ever
in Britain.
When you are planning to visit the city it is difficult to know
where to start from as the city has numerous attractions. Salford
Museum and Art Gallery packs a whole lot of fun into one gorgeous
historic building.. an ever-changing programme of exciting and
innovative temporary exhibitions in the galleries; LifeTimes,
a community heritage gallery recounting the stories of Salford's
citizens throughout the ages all can be seen in the museums.
You'll find one of Salford's biggest surprises at the Ordsall
Hall. This beautiful Tudor hall is steeped in history, with
Guy Fawkes reputed to have planned the gunpowder plot under
its roof. If its not enough then you can explore the Worsley,
a potential World Heritage Site, which is an oasis of calm in
the bustling city. Boasting a Grade 1 listed building and numerous
Grade 2 listed halls, a marina, idyllic greens and, of course,
the Bridgewater Canal, this picturesque village conjures up
images of hazy days by the canal watching the barges drift past.
Thus we can say that Salford has it all.
The city is surrounded by numerous road systems and lies at
the centre of the national transport system. Train, car, bus
and air services all provide with excellent nationwide access

a taxi (Taxi Hire Salford, Private Hire Salford).
