In addition, Sandwell's location, at the heart of the West Midlands conurbation, makes it well placed to develop its cultural assets for the benefit of both local communities and visitors. Sandwell Valley Country Park is an oasis of countryside filled with parklands, woodlands, hidden pools, picnic sites, wildlife refuges, wildfowl lakes and the remains of an old Benedictine monastery. See the famous Tamworth pig at Sandwell Park Farm a nineteenth century mixed farm with animal breeds and crops as appropriate to the period. Enhancing the borough's leisure attractions are the number of green spaces including Forge Mill Farm, Town and Neighbourhood Parks, Allotments and Galton Valley Heritage Centre.
Whether you plan to visit Sandwell by car, train or plane, getting to and around Sandwell could not be simpler. The borough lies at the heart of the country's motorway and rail networks and is relatively close to international and light plane airports. . All of the campuses are easily accessible via road, rail, bus and metro links. Nearby Birmingham is one of the main transport hubs of the country.
From a tourist point of view the best you can do is hire a taxi and within a short taxi drive you can have the best of both worlds, the rich heritage of the Black Country and the excitement of Birmingham City centre. Taxis and Private Hire Cars can be booked in advance, and offer a door to door style of transport. Private Hire Cars are ordinary saloon, estate cars, or specially converted wheelchair accessible vehicles which are licensed by the Local Authority to carry passengers who book their journey in advance.
